Number Line Records is very excited to release this special remix EP from Similar Objects, Tarsius, and Modulogeek. Fresh from their triple-header show in Hong Kong, the three electronic acts have taken turns deconstructing and reinventing each other’s work. The resulting EP, The Hong Kong Remixes, features three hybrid edits: Modulogeek’s “Walking” re-imagined through the cosmic sensibilities of Similar Objects; “Padmini Dhoop,” the Similar Objects collaboration with Rh Xanders, darkened with Tarsius’ rolling beats; and the Tarsius hit “Deathless Gods,” reintroduced with Modulogeek’s trademark sense of play and then reworked into a euphoric, electro-influenced dancefloor filler.

Half Awake in the Morning Haze is the latest release from Francis Maria Regalado’s synthpop project, Love in Athens. Francis’ recent move to Manila influenced the overall sound of this release, which he describes as “a restless account of a change in scenery, the surge of traffic, and the low mechanical hum of the capital’s railways”. The theme is evident throughout this collection of songs, from the compelling opener “Shell Canvas”, a track awash in lush, atmospheric guitar lines and unrelenting, to-and-fro shifts in part and rhythm, to the hazy, infinite swooning of the ending track “Closure”.

Francis describes Love in Athens as “an endeavor subject to the wills and desires of my own emotions. I have no say in the matter. It happens by itself.”

Half Japanese is the debut Number Line Records release from, the solo project of Bee Eyes guitarist Idris Vicuña. Born in the nineties but raised on eighties new wave, Vicuña’s turn as Eyedress is a melancholic synthpop take on themes of post-adolescent love and loss. Typically written as beats first and then layered with spare melodies and drowned out vocal arrangements, the songs on Half Japanese produce a sense of diaristic nostalgia. Together they provide a retro-futurist account of romance, a loose, mood-driven narrative that begins with the wide-eyed, unsuspecting opener, “Mountbatten” and summery standout, “Teen Spirits,” and which closes with the darker themes of yearning and distrust in “Tokyo Ghost” and “Death Bed” (featuring Cat Cortes of Arigato, Hato!).
